Shopping in Chicago

Chicago has both world-class shopping centers and neighborhood streets filled with unique and local shops. Here are a few of the best:

Water Tower Place
Named for the one building that survived the Chicago fire, this shopping center first gained fame for its glass elevators, which were featured in various films. It's also attached to the condo building where Oprah lives. It has a gourmet food court on the lower levels and many of your favorite mall shops on the upper levels, like Sephora, Banana Republic, and Coach. Water Tower is in the heart of the Gold Coast on Michigan Avenue at Chicago Street.

900 North Michigan Shops
Just one block north from Water Tower Place on Michigan Avenue, 900 North has Bloomingdale's as its anchor and the Four Seasons hotel above it. Here you'll find other staples like J. Crew, Club Monaco, and MaxMara. A bit smaller and more elegant than the populist Water Tower Place, it also has some higher end shops that are only in select shopping centers, like Fogal with its exclusive leg wear, Christofle with its silver homewares, and Karen Millen's shop, the only one for the British designer in the Midwest.

Oak Street
You'll want to stroll down Oak Street to experience Chicago's most prestigious shopping area. Oak Street is located just a few blocks north of Water Tower Place and 900 North Michigan. The anchor of Oak Street for the past 35 years has been Marilyn Miglin Skincare, where you can buy her exclusive skin care products and cosmetics. You can also visit Barneys, Hermes, Woolford, and Jimmy Choo, just to name a few of the shops lining this street.

Local Chicago Favorites in Lincoln Park
This north side neighborhood is one of the city's trendiest.

1154 Lill Studio
You can literally design your own handbag here. You can choose from hundreds of fabrics that cover a range of colors, textures, and prints, to create your own bag. This studio has numerous bag styles, from small wallets to weekenders, and everything in between.

Thread Lounge
This shop carries many recognizable designers, but best of all, carries them in all sizes in which they're made. This isn't a shop just for the size zeros and twos.

Comfort Me
Carrying apparel, garden and home furnishings, and other lifestyle items, this shop's focus is to provide the tools everyone one needs to relax and be healthy.
